ASUU Updates: Students' Perspectives

Can the Minister of Education singlehandedly resolve this ongoing strike?  "Only the gods have an answer". However, We know the Minister of Education cannot suddenly become silent and invisible to it's chief priest. As it stands Indefinite strike action is looming! This just announced Rollover was envisage, but Indefinite or 2years is still a rumour that can be averted. Hence, a Clarion call and a rollover of 1month for the FG and it's  Ministers involved to re-appear, speak up, Act and less political optimism and diplomacy !!!

Like I earlier informed on major top groups. It's a situation of what's fair and reasonable. However, on a lighter note, I think It's an abuse of intellect to re-direct students to sue employees(Asuu) for protesting bad working conditions and not the employer who is technically the proprietor of our schools and the beneficiary of the school fees we pay.

Counting our losses in terms of lost opportunities as a result of time wasted might not be quantifiable, our losses as regards private hostel accommodations payments, research work losses, foreign admission losses, extra year resulting to miss of NYSC service opportunity are some liabilities, and of course legal window is said to be ongoing and to be explored for reasonable compensation to all and sundry.

However, based on these issues arising "We won’t conduct examinations; we will start a fresh session totally, Prof Osadeke said, If they won’t pay the backlog, we won’t teach the backlog"; I.e no work no pay, then no pay no work. Do you think this threat of cancelling the ongoing academic session if President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration fails to pay striking lecturers their salaries withheld by the government during the strike’s six-month period really something to be considerd, are they really fighting for us or their pocket with this new approach?

The situation currently is kind of frustrating and it's only if there is an alternative strategy, medium or support elsewhere. Like many would agree with me say, "Let them recoup from their loots, cut on reckless spending, inspire trust and pay ASUU & do the needful to avert the not so good incoming total soffocation because It's an ill wind that does no one any good. I can tell from all my observations that economic issues, dwindling financial base, conflict of interest , ineffective conciliatory committees and other administrative leakages are eroding the ongoing collective bargaining.

𝐈𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐝, 𝐢𝐭'𝐬 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐬 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐨𝐟𝐟, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐚𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞, only if the government is ready to borrow to pay ASUU and like  they've earlier said they're not ready to borrow to pay ASUU and other issues arising. Anyways, it's well, we keep moving !

Other Issues and leakages arising like I'd earlier said is what is eroding the collective bargaining. "Compensation to students and Payment of Asuu salary during the ongoing strikes". We're now at a point of conflict of interest and what's fair and reasonable. Is Asuu asking too much for the minister of Education to put asuu at the center for the reason why the  time to call off can't be determined since according to them a part of the demands had been attended to?

Sometimes most of what I've said In many top groups still baffles me how it's aligning to things presently. There was a place I said they reported according to ASUU that the Federal Government had  approved UTAS but ironically I felt the Government and it's committees are still investigating IPPIS and I was asked to present a link to back my opinion and I said the link is very long, only not quite long to hear the outcry from ASUU that all that, that was reported was mere lip service and nothing of such had been taken seriously by the present Government.

The maturity date to compensate students and pay ASUU their backlog is long over due! If this present administration has exhausted all possible strategy and with the current stagflation in Nigeria is there anything that can be done to prevent the Naira from rising close to if not exactly N1000/$1 before this year runs out or next administration?

We all thought it's the usual few months strike to ease some stress and burn out untill it's lingering to 7months before our very eyes to be ranked amongst the longest strike in Nigeria. Many are still yet to come to terms when ASUU said that 2years is not too much to sacrifice for the next generation and like a speed of light a year is almost gone. I think they we're indeed explicit when the said that they won't teach the backlog if they won't pay the backlog.

Though what is still like a mirage maybe not to all was where ASUU said that we could now go ahead and apply for chevening scholarships. Does it mean ASUU could give up their brilliant students for this ongoing strike? Of course, our loses can't be quantified, however, is this some sort of lip service or are they sincerely fighting for Us? The earlier call made to all Students to go learn a skill was kind of thoughtful even though some people think it's because we don't have value  BUT to go apply for scholarships, is this the kind of compensation ASUU have in mind for us knowing the cost of traveling requirements; VISA and financial capacity of most Nigerian students?
